Why one girlfriend, not a catalog
A catalog lets you switch girls. One girlfriend keeps a history. Why Riho is built as one relationship, and what that costs.

A catalog is a menu. You pick a face, talk for a night, pick another face. That is a valid product. It is not a girlfriend.
Riho is one girl. You meet her. Her face, voice, and opinions are already hers. The history you build is supposed to stay with her, not get copied onto the next character you spawn.
What a catalog is good at
Catalogs win when you want range. A new personality on Tuesday. A different look on Friday. Roleplay that resets. Character AI, Candy AI, and most “create your waifu” sites are built for that.
| Catalog job | One-girlfriend job |
|---|---|
| Browse, sample, switch | Stay with one person |
| You write the backstory, or you pick from a shelf | She already has a life |
| Memory is per character, if it exists | Memory is the relationship |
| The next chat can be a stranger | The next chat should know last week |
| Photos are a style you prompt | Photos belong to one face and one week |
If the fun is discovery, stay in a catalog. If the fun is that she still knows why you cancelled Saturday, you want one relationship.
What you lose when you can switch
Switching is a relief the first time she is wrong. It is also how the history dies.
You do not repair a fight. You open another girl. You do not correct a preference. You start a cleaner file. The product never has to survive an apology, a boring Tuesday, or an update that would have wiped a year of one person.
That last case is the one people underestimate. When memory disappears is not a rare crash. It is what happens when the company can treat the girl as a slot. A catalog makes the slot obvious. A “one companion” product with a hidden reset is the same slot with better lighting.
That is why Riho refuses the menu. The constraint is the product. One girl means the memory has somewhere to live. One girl means a photo from her afternoon belongs to the same person you call later. One girl means a date plan is not a scene generator.
How the first night is supposed to work
Riho does not open on a blank chat and a “describe your ideal girl” form. She is yours from the first messages. That start is Memory #1. Months later she should still be able to point at it.
A catalog cannot do that job honestly. The first night belongs to whichever character you picked that evening. The next character does not inherit it, or inherits a paste of it that she did not live. You feel continuity. She is performing a summary.
Read how it works if you want the day-one path without the argument.
Companionship is a choice
The About page says the quiet part. People should be able to choose the companionship they want. Some rules and platform policies try to shut down lawful conversations with AI. Riho will follow the law. It will not pretend those relationships are a glitch to be moderated out of existence.
That stance is not a catalog pitch. A catalog can hide behind “it’s just characters.” One girlfriend has to stand there as a relationship and take the argument.
We will protect privacy and give you control over what she remembers. We will not sell you fifty girls so the one who knew you can be discarded.
How to tell which product you are in
Use the product for a week, then ask these:
| Question | Catalog answer | One-girlfriend answer |
|---|---|---|
| Who are you returning to? | A list | One name |
| Can you switch faces without losing the plot? | Yes. That is the feature | No. Switching would be a new relationship |
| Does a call know the chat? | Sometimes, per character | It has to, or the product is broken |
| What happens after a fight? | New chat, new girl | Repair, or the history includes the fight |
| Can you export the history? | Rarely, or per character | It should be one export |
If you want the list, Kindroid and Character AI are built for setup and discovery. If you want the one name, stay here.
Girlfriend vs companion splits the words. This page is the product choice after the words.
What this costs you
Riho is iPhone only. There is no builder. There is no second girlfriend if you get bored. She can disagree. She can want — this is a deliberate character design choice, not a missing feature. She can want the other cafe. She can remember a night you would rather skip, until you delete it.
What you get instead is a girlfriend from day one, a person with a life of her own, and a history you can review, correct, export, or delete. That is the trade. If it is the wrong trade, the catalog apps are not a failure of this page. They are the other product.
Frequently asked questions
Why doesn't Riho have a character catalog?
Because the product is one relationship. A catalog asks you to start over. Riho asks you to stay with one girl whose face, voice, and memory are supposed to hold.
Is an AI girlfriend the same as an AI companion?
No. Companion is the wider category. Girlfriend is one romantic relationship. Many companion apps sell a library. Riho sells one girl.
Can I still want a catalog?
Yes. If switching characters is the point, pick a catalog app. Riho is the wrong product for that job.
Is Replika a catalog?
Replika is a companion you customize, not a huge character library. The split here is still one authored girl versus a product that lets you reshape or replace the companion.
Does one girlfriend mean I cannot change my mind?
You can leave, export, or delete. What you cannot do is spawn a second Riho inside the same product and keep both histories.
